Withington plans a day of Jubilee celebrations – put June 4th in your diary!

Plans are underway for Withington’s Jubilee celebrations, bank holiday Monday 4th June. A series of afternoon and evening events is planned, including sports and games on the village green, entertainment and a “Jubilee Beacon” to be lit after dark.

Minutes of the first planning meeting are posted below, and further updates will be published on this website.

The date of the next planning meeting is Monday 27th February, 7.30pm in the Parish Room. Further offers of help and other ideas are most welcome.


Minutes of the Public Meeting held on 18 Jan 12 to Discuss Withington Jubilee Celebrations Monday 4th June 2012

A Draft plan for the day was created:-

12.00: Grand opening hopefully with pony and Trap-LS to investigate
Fancy dress parade and competitions M. Hillaby
BBQ etc D. Hillaby
Village treasure Hunt - J. Scutt
Roo Racing A Stone
Children’s competitions K Neville/S Haddock

2.00pm Football Match/tournament - TBA

Children’s races/Olympic sports - TBA

3.30pm onwards Afternoon Teas /prize giving

Interlude/Intermission etc.etc.

7.00pm onwards “Picnic on the Green”

Bar/Beer tent?

Live Music TBA (BluZone) - LS to get info from TT

Lighting of the Jubilee beacon with “Last Night of the Proms “music and singing” Recorded/live? (LS to request TT to apply for official status for the beacon)
Additional discussions were held on:-
Agreement to loan marquees/gazebos from canal trust via B Jones
acquiring bunting/souvenirs etc(mini souvenir stall?)
production of souvenir book of Withington photos etc (N.Williams)
Litter bins/rubbish collection.
